J.S. 4 (30799) Stereo. Recorded 1/12/1977
Tracks: Medicine Man & Dark Eyes
Going through some old files the other day, I came across a stack of 45 RPM discs that are all copies of the exceedingly rare Jazz Session release (catalog J.S. 4) of the Tiny Grimes Trio featuring guest star Bucky Pizzarelli on "Medicine Man" and "Dark Eyes" as recorded on January 12, 1977.
Tiny Grimes who played with Charlie Parker and Art Tatum is a guitar legend and a real guitar hero. Tiny played a four string electric guitar than is similar to our regular six string instrument without the two lowest pitched strings. YOU'D NEVER KNOW. And Tiny knew the ever ongoing Bucky Pizzarelli - what a guitar duo.
Call this a surprise find from FINAL VINYL and in the 7-inch 45 RPM edition of that glorious format. It sounds great, it is great.
Jazz researcher and teacher, Ben Young points out that on the rare occasions that this EXTREMELY RARE 45 RPM turns up, it sells for over $50. A similar Jazz Session 45 RPM disc sold at The Gift Shop at Jazz at Lincoln Center for $120 in 2009.
